Asking creatively for interactive guidance is as useful as asking questions to an software engineer who coaches you in a daily basis. For example, you may ask an LLM:

"Guide me interactively in designing a database scheme for a web directory website. After designing this database, guide me interactively to implement this website by using X framework... and using Y libraries...".

By asking this question and adding context to your question your LLM will guide you through the design process without necessarily producing a slop you copy without adaptation or customization. You may then ask other questions specifically related to the framework you would use to implement this website and the LLM can take that past design as context to your new questions. An LLM can even creatively help you discover unit testing cases you may miss without the direct guidance on a human coach.

This kind of questions are also an opportunity to help yourself configure a Linux server firewall like Firewalld. For example, you may ask:

"I already install firewalld on my Ubuntu Linux server. I'm using the public zone by default for all network interfaces. Guide me interactively to configure Firewalld so my docker service is accessible only through Tailscale and not the open Internet".

Executing this configuration process involves configuring Firewalld for each network interface on your server and it can be hard to execute without networking experience. However, an LLM can indeed help you adapt its answers to your own setup just as you would do by reading and asking on a website like Stackoverflow. You can even provide it the names of your network interfaces and ask it to help you in the process of opening ports and allowing services with Firewalld so it customizes its answers.

Moreover, when you already have answers you can then ask even more questions by taking into considerations past results by asking:

"Taking this past answers into consideration, now guide me interactively to configure X...".

Creative prompting is useful for solving many types of problems in system administration and can even help you design and implement a website without necessarily copying a slop as your own design. LLMs can guide you in a similar way to as a coaching engineer would if you take the time to ask creatively for answers.

Recently I read this article that reminds me how human development is tied to water consumption and availability. Water stress may hinder the development of cities even while those cities thrive and other thriving cities which do not suffer water-stress may further their development. He carried his groceries toward his apartment in a weekly basis and worked as an independent writer at home. He did travel to the city twice a week usually to the library and met friends at least a few times a year.

As he reached his street, many other people laughed past him while others smiled at his eyes. A street-medic botched his neural implant, and now most of his mood and even thoughts were public knowledge to those who dared to listen.

Some people knew nothing, but most did and made sure to let him feel their wish for him to go. Three years had gone by and he still went on. He lost everything, wealth, work and even romantic interests. People even made up crazy stories about his past and health.

Still, he knew better than to worry or feel guilty about it. As he reached his apartment he knew he had no privacy but did have loneliness. And through loneliness he wrote tech and poetry. He was sure in one way or the other she read and liked what he wrote, even though he would never see her again.

Experiencias Complementarias

Introduction

Recently I moved from Linux and Qubes OS to FreeBSD as my main desktop Operating System. An Operating System is a system of programs that helps you operate and work with your computer. So far the experience has been great. I do feel happy within this environment and see it as a professional growth opportunity. This is a short review of my experience with FreeBSD and how I expect to grow as a Unix-like user.

Review

There’s little use in installing an Operating System by itself. However, there's great opportunity in taking that OS and customizing it into a work-environment that augments your productivity. In practice, using FreeBSD or Linux as a Desktop OS may not be too different in a graphical way from using MS Windows as a Desktop, but they do offer a growth opportunity if turned into a personalised work-environment that augments your productivity with customized tools. Open Source licensed software also makes it easier to work with these programs in the future even if interest in them diminishes over time.

FreeBSD offers you hundreds of Open Source apps and tools, a powerful CLI interface that helps you automate tasks and their main system development and support is driven by an Internet community of users-developers and not necessarily depends directly on a business. A Unix-like system by design helps you interconnect these tools so they work together to help you produce new tools that solve problems. This system is also published with Open Source software licenses that allow you, help you and motivate you to participate in their development, even in an indirect way as a power user and community member.

As a user, you may contribute to the FreeBSD project in many different ways like creating documentation, providing support by answering questions in forums or simply by writing tutorials, guides and articles online. Of course, all of this is also possible for MS Windows, however Windows development is first driven by business interest and user interest second. Windows is designed to work best with proprietary software and file formats which may or may not be available in the future.

Customization and Tools

At home, I customized my FreeBSD desktop with i3wm and tcsh shell. Through this desktop I browse the web, write and work on personal software projects. My desktop also serves Virtual Machines and resources throughout my home network. This system includes automation shell scripts and UI customizations that do improve my productivity. I’ve been configuring and improving these tools for many years on Linux and now FreeBSD.

Online, I set up a VPS Server to host a Syncthing server and it is possible to run many more web sites and app projects. And those same tools I develop for my desktop work on my online server. With FreeBSD I automate my daily tasks, work on my hobbies and help others in an efficient and economical way.

Conclusion

Open Source software and Unix-like OSs like FreeBSD offer many advantages like automation, software customization and make it easy to work with it even if interest diminishes over time. Personally I choose FreeBSD and Linux for desktops and Internet servers. I do run Apple, Google and Microsoft Devices but I don’t aspire to use these devices as my primary devices in the future. Day by day I see how today it is easier than ever to run FreeBSD or Linux as a daily driver device. Hopefully, it'll be further improved in the future.

Qubes OS is great, however, it does limit the ability to screencast and establish online video presentations, which I need for software development. I already run a FreeBSD VPS server on the cloud and I’m happy to now test it as a daily driver on a laptop.

After using Qubes continuously for more than half a year, I see that installing and booting Qubes OS off an external USB SSD is better for me and my workflow. With an external Qubes installation I can still take advantage of security and compartmentalization features when I really need them and still use FreeBSD in a daily basis for business and communications.

In the future I expect to dedicate this Intel laptop exclusively to Qubes OS and do most of my work on a more powerful FreeBSD desktop.

Review of the Installation Process

Installing FreeBSD on this laptop was easy. However, I completed the process twice, because I first choosed UFS as my file system, which does not support disk encryption. The second time around I choosed ZFS and set up encryption.

Then I continued to installing XORG and i3 which is more easy than I expected. In my case it din’t need extra configuration apart from creating a properly configured “.xinitrc” file on your home directory.

Furthermore, I installed XRDP so I’m able to control this laptop from the comfort of my Macbook. This way I don’t need to use a KVM switch as I’m already at home within a LAN network.

FreeBSD is a great alternative to Linux as a server and I’m happy to further test drive it as a desktop.

Introduction

Forensics analysis allows a business to discover hacking evidence, retrieve old data from disk drives, and discover hardware or software modifications. Forensic analysis can also be used and abused by third parties for illegal purposes.

Anti-forensics techniques can help a business or individual hinder the ability of a third party to read data from drives or see or modify a computer's configuration.

This post contains a list of anti-forensics techniques for data storage that can serve as an example to protect business interests. This list will be improved and expanded over time.

List of Anti-Forensics Techniques for Data Storage

Note: Please read the list in order; this will help you understand the logic behind every technique.

Note: These are personal insights and not facts, I do not guarantee success in any way.

As a general tip, it is easier to hinder data recovery if drives are encrypted before first use and if drives are completely rewritten before discarding them. Flash Memory only needs to be completely formatted once and Hard Drives need multiple complete rewrites.

A complete formatting of a drive overwrites all its data once and then formats it.

Encrypt important storage drives before using them. Strong data encryption will help reduce the possibility of third parties reading the content of those drives. It'll also hinder the chances of reading old data from discarded drives by a third-party. Once you wish to discard an encrypted Hard Drive, you should format it and even re-write it as recommended, but as it was encrypted before use, retrieving data will be harder as a third-party would first need to decrypt the recovered data.

Before discarding a Flash Drive, do a complete format. By completely formatting flash memory, you reduce any chances of retrieving old data in the case of forensic analysis by other parties.

Before discarding a Hard Drive, rewrite the hard drive disk multiple times. There are many tools that help you accomplish this. Rewriting data on hard drives reduces any chance of other parties retrieving old data during analysis or after discarding it. Consider destroying the Hard Drive afterwards as recovering data on Hard Drives may be possible even after multiple rewrites.

Use and prefer small SD cards or flash memory for temporary storage. Cards with 16 GB or 32 GB of storage are easier to completely format than larger cards. A small drive takes less time to format than a larger drive. A complete format helps hinder any chances of old data retrieval and if this disk is encrypted before hand, it would be harder still to recover data. Small Flash Cards are also easier to destroy than Flash Drives and Hard Drives.

He left his cyber-loop on, recording as he slept. He truly wanted to know what he dreamed of this summer, but this was also a risk, because unknown to him, his then-friends might be able to take a look, if they really tried hard enough.

Mark decided to loop him through a nightmare just for scare. He didn't like the fact that Joseph's businesses went so great. Yeah, he was still poor, but he was about to move on from where they lived. Joseph didn't know what was up as he slept, and didn't care anyway. He always cared for what truly meant something for him. Particularly his muse and all his projects, even while being poor.

Meanwhile, Mark figured he could use a past unused wireless key Joseph shared with him to access his cyber-loop for a while, but this was a one-off business, because he would obviously revoke all keys afterwards. This key wasn't meant to be used this way, but it worked because he also knew Joseph's wireless password. His girl's full name and his library number.

As Mark's loop began, Joseph felt as if he woke up, slowly, dizzy and in a haze. He felt as he laid on his couch, head back and listening. He heard the birds singing and knew it was still day time and as he started to awake, noticed he could not close his couch leg stand. He tried, but to no avail, even hard enough to close it.

Then he felt as he woke up again. It was strange, it behaved as a 'nightware loop' but he didn't care. This time he awoke on his bed, still trying to close the leg stand as hard as he could. He heard an evil taunt that said:

"Maybe you should care..."

and instantly knew something was off. He could care less. This was more expensive to those who ran the loop than to him. They would not be able to sustain it past a third time.

And just like that, he woke up again, he moved up and started 'fixing' an old xBox he had laying around. Just as he started a sudden charge hit his hand, and the xBox turned itself on. It behaved like a radio, and Alan Watts could be heard talking nonsense, which he never did unless he was joking. He placed everything down, and went back to sleep.

He woke up a few hours later, alone, turned off his loop and drank water. Now he knew everything was good. He could, if he wanted, live through that 'nightware' again, edit it and even sell it, or he could just choose to use it as fuel for a written story. He erased its chip and looked forward into seeing his girl and writing about this instead. He did care for her and didn't care about anyone else's business other than his own.

Aprende a usar recursos literarios.
